An owner of a small restaurant chain was served with a complaint from the Department of Fair Employment and Housing alleging that a former employee was wrongfully terminated and had endured a hostile work environment and sexual harassment. SPI Investigations stepped in and conducted an expansive investigation, interviewing current and former employees, and patrons of the restaurants. We revealed that the former employee who filed the complaint was a drug user with an extensive criminal history who had tried to bribe and coerce employees and patrons to lie for her with a promise of cash payments when she received a settlement from her employer. The complaint was withdrawn, and the restaurant owner avoided having to pay the $200,000 settlement offer.
A distribution center operating in California was plagued with the high cost of workers’ compensation insurance. The certified Claims Managers at SPI Investigations conducted a comprehensive evaluation and assessment of the company’s coverage, outstanding claims, reserves, and actuaries. After implementing some basic policy changes, employee training and switching to another insurance carrier, the company, in less than a year, saved over a million dollars in workers’ compensation cost.
A non-profit funded by government grants and donations which provided housing and shelter for survivors of domestic violence, was concerned about the safety of their residents at their facilities after repeated threats from convicted abusers who had been released from prison. Because the threats were indirect and implied, law enforcement was unable to take action against them. Our team of former law enforcement professionals and experts in threat assessment conducted on-site threat assessments of their facilities and help implement safety equipment, protocols and procedures that made the facilities more secure. We also provided “Active Shooter Preparedness Training” to the staff members in the event an armed suspect breached one of their facilities. To date, these facilities have remained safe, and the nonprofit has been able to expand their operations and provide much needed help and sanctuary to these families at risk.
